This project will develop a dedicated strategy specifically for our District; Tilba Tilba, Central Tilba and Mystery Bay.
We have identified the need for a comprehensive strategic plan for our District, which includes Central Tilba, Tilba Tilba, and Mystery Bay, to ensure that our communities remain attractive to live in, work in, and visit for many years to come.
Let’s collaborate to create a future vision for the Tilba District that reflects our diversity, amazing natural beauty, and cultural diversity.
This project is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to examine the many physical, environmental, and cultural assets that we have at our fingertips. Importantly, this project will be led by and for our community, ensuring a truly unique approach that highlights and leverages our own strengths and potential and is tailored to our specific needs.
We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands where we work and live, the Djiringanj people of the Yuin nation. We pay respect to Ancestors and Elders, past, present and future.
The Tilba District Strategic Plan is a long term plan that embraces the district’s distinctiveness to guarantee it is protected, prepared, and proactive in responding to future challenges. It runs from now through September 2022. Bushfires, climate crises, and Covid-19 have all posed serious challenges to businesses, the environment, and overall liveability in the last two years.
This plan ensures that the Tilba District’s future paves the way for it to become an even better location to live, work, and visit, as well as a more responsive to the growing threat of climate change. The strategic plan includes in-depth research into what makes the Tilba District so unique, in order to ensure the charming and intrinsic community character is preserved and amplified.

A strategic plan is a document that communicates a path for achieving common goals and ambitions among local businesses, community organisations, and local residents. These outcomes are achieved through various short, medium, and long term actions. The strategy will be developed based on discussions with a variety of stakeholders in the Tilba District.
To protect and enhance the best qualities of our district while adding those elements which will be needed to help it evolve and make it an even better place in which to live, work and visit.
It is important to note that we do not know what the strategic plan might or might not include until we have undertaken this exercise. This is why the involvement of as many local people, businesses, community groups and others is so important and key to this project’s success.
The plan includes the community living within the Tilba District between the three bridges at Akolele, Dignams Creek and Corunna – including Mystery Bay and out to Artmitage Road on Gulaga Mountain. The focus of this project will be the villages of Central Tilba, Tilba Tilba and Mystery Bay.
Tilba District Chamber of Commerce is leading this project. This project is being undertaken by our community, for our community ensuring a truly bespoke approach, leveraging our own strengths and opportunities and tailored to our own needs.
This is a Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Project, funded through the joint Commonwealth/State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
This plan will benefit everyone in our community. We will be central to its development and central to its delivery.
The project will create a strategic plan or roadmap for Tilba District, tailored to the unique needs of the area. This in turn will provide the opportunity to influence, advocate, provide direction and show strong leadership all towards project funding and future support.
The Strategic Plan for the Tilba District will ensure that there is a resilient plan that is future proofed against major events (including but not only catastrophic bushfire) by anticipating our needs, particularly around preparedness and response capability. A key component of this project will be explicitly focusing on preparedness for a major event. In being able to respond appropriately, we will be less impacted and better equipped to combat and bounce back from any future event. This project will address the longer term resilience of our villages, addressing the various key pillars of our proposition and how we want to retain and grow it.
We will be engaging broadly with local businesses and the community, alongside government agencies.
